Privacy policy

This policy explains what studdy.live collects, what it deliberately does not collect, and how peer-to-peer video works. If anything here is unclear, ask through the feedback form.

The short version

  • Your camera is off by default, travels directly between browsers, and is never stored.
  • There is no microphone, no recording and no file upload anywhere.
  • Your email address is never displayed. Only your public display name is.
  • Study time is kept as day-level totals in your timezone, not a minute-by-minute log.
  • Advertising is static images with aggregate impression and click counters only.

1. Account and authentication data

Sign-in is handled by Clerk, a third-party authentication provider. Clerk processes the email address and password (or the social provider you choose) on studdy.live's behalf. studdy.live itself never sees or stores your password.

studdy.live stores an internal user record containing: a public display name you choose, your selected examination category, your daily study target, your timezone, your study preferences, your account status, and your study statistics (sessions, daily aggregates, tasks, streaks and achievements).

Your email address is never displayed on studdy.live. It is not shown on leaderboards, in study rooms, in chat, or anywhere else in the interface. Only your public display name is visible to other students.

2. Camera and peer-to-peer video

Your camera is off by default. No camera or microphone permission is requested when you open a room, and video starts only when you explicitly enable it.

When enabled, video is transmitted directly between browsers using WebRTC peer-to-peer connections. The studdy.live server never receives, relays, proxies or stores your video stream. There is no recording feature anywhere in studdy.live.

Because video reaches other students' browsers directly, any peer who can see your feed could point a camera at their screen and record it. studdy.live has no technical way to prevent that. Keep your background appropriate and treat every companion feed as publicly visible.

Turning your camera off stops the media track immediately. No frame is retained after that.

3. Microphone

studdy.live does not use your microphone. There is no audio capture, no voice chat, no voice rooms and no microphone permission request anywhere in the application.

4. No uploads of any kind

There is no upload control anywhere in studdy.live — no chat attachments, no profile pictures, no documents, no screenshots, no notes.

Avatars are generated from the initials of your display name. Advertisements are static images served directly from the advertiser's own host; studdy.live never proxies, re-uploads or stores them.

5. Where your data is stored

Study application data is stored in a local SQLite database on the server: your profile, preferences, tasks, study sessions, Pomodoro records, streaks, achievements, chat messages, private room memberships, feedback and reports.

Chat messages are retained for a limited period defined by the platform's retention setting and are then removed. Deleted messages are removed from the interface immediately.

6. Timezone and day-level aggregates

Study time is stored as day-level aggregates in your own timezone: a date, an active duration, and counters for completed sessions, completed Pomodoros and completed tasks. studdy.live does not keep a minute-by-minute or second-by-second timeline of your activity.

Study time is derived from server-side session leases and heartbeats, which measure whether the platform was active and visible. It is not a claim that you were physically studying, and it is not shared with anyone but you.

Sessions record a start time, an end time and accumulated active and break durations. They are used for streak calculation, achievements and leaderboard totals.

7. Leaderboards

Leaderboards rank students by verified study time within an examination category. They show your public display name, your streak, your Pomodoro count and your total hours.

You can opt out at any time from your profile. Opting out removes your entry from every leaderboard; opting back in applies to future periods only and does not backfill past rankings.

Leaderboard rows are refreshed on a schedule, so a change in your standing can take a few minutes to appear.

8. Advertising

studdy.live is supported by static image advertisements. Ad creatives are hosted by the advertiser and loaded directly from the advertiser's host when the ad slot scrolls into view.

studdy.live counts impressions and clicks as simple aggregate counters per campaign, per day, per placement. These counters are used for billing and reporting.

There is no behavioural profiling, no cross-site tracking, no ad personalisation, no retargeting and no third-party advertising network. studdy.live does not build an advertising profile of you.

9. Cookies and local storage

studdy.live sets a session cookie through Clerk so you stay signed in. That is the only cookie required by the application.

Your browser's local storage holds your Pomodoro timer state so the timer survives a refresh, and a theme preference. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

10. Requesting deletion of your data

You can request deletion of your account and all associated study statistics through the feedback form. Choose the Complaint category, state that you are requesting data deletion, and include the public display name on the account.

Deletion removes your profile, preferences, tasks, sessions, aggregates, streaks, achievements, chat messages, private room memberships, feedback and reports. Aggregate leaderboard rows that have already been published are rebuilt on the next refresh cycle.

11. Students under 18

studdy.live is built for students and is designed to be safe for minors. There is no private direct messaging between strangers, no anonymous posting, no profile pictures, no uploads, and no audio of any kind.

Only public display names are visible. Email addresses are never displayed. Blocking and reporting are available on every surface, and administrators can remove content and restrict accounts.

If you are under 18, you should use studdy.live with the knowledge of a parent or guardian, and you should keep your camera off unless a guardian has agreed otherwise.

This policy may change as the platform changes. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page. studdy.live is provided free of charge and is supported by static image advertisements.
